A letter from Gerardo… our story
like most new projects, VIVA TRVL started by accident. In 2006, I left my hometown Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, to pursue the American dream as an industrial engineer in USA. When I left Honduras, I promised that I would come back and do something, little or big, to help my country. I wanted to give back.
In the summer of 2009, I invited 3 of my best friends from upstate NY to join me on a 10-day excursion around Honduras. I wanted to show them the beauty of my country and the warmth of my people. I borrowed my mother’s ‘94 Ford Taurus and off we went to explore Honduras. 10 days later, something had changed… I had discovered the true beauty of my own country. But most importantly, I observed how my friends were having a trip of a lifetime: zip-lining through the rain forest, snorkeling in Roatán, or admiring the Mayan ruins of Copán. I then realized that Honduras had too much to offer. I realized that I could make a difference in the world with two main goals:
Through my passion and love for Honduras, make people happy by sharing the beauty of my home country
Through tourism, help the people of a country that has faced multiple political, social, and natural challenges.
Today, I am the Founder and Lead Tour Manager for VIVA TRVL. I have traveled to more than 26 countries in the world, but my favorite is still the same one… Honduras!!
